Horror: A Hungarian couple locked up a 71-year-old French woman

A 71-year-old French woman was locked up by a Hungarian couple in Siófok for one and a half years. She was held captive in a small, unheated hut.

The Public Prosecutor of the District of Siófok has prosecuted a 42-year-old man and his 41-year-old wife for violating the freedom of the victim. They kept the elderly French woman locked up for one and a half years on a property in the proximity of Siófok, in a 6-square-metre hut that used to function as a hog pen and as a storage for tools.

According to the announcement, the offenders, an old married couple, gained the confidence of the French woman living in Siófok, to a point where she considered them family. Taking advantage of the situation, first, they moved into her home, then they convinced her to give the property away as a gift to their underage child, while she still kept the usufruct. Later on, in 2017, the couple said they wanted to renovate the house, so they moved the elderly lady into a property close to Siófok where she got into a conflict with a man who was also living there, under the same roof. Though she asked the couple to let her move back to her old home, they did not. Instead,

they moved her to a hut standing on a garden plot-like property that used to function as a hog pen.

The hut was equipped with bars on its window.

She had to live in horrible conditions. Though she was provided with a radio, a bed, a desk, and a night lamp,

she had no possibility to shower, wash her clothes, or clean the little building; moreover, the hut did not have heating, and to top it off, it was not even insulated.

The couple arrived once a day to bring her food, water, and alcohol. From time to time, they let her take a walk on the property with their supervision. The woman considered her situation to be hopeless, so she did not try to escape; however, when her captors were not supervising her, she tried to call for help in German, but no one could hear her in the uninhabited area, writes telex.hu.

In March 2018, the elderly woman’s neighbours started to find it strange that she had been away for so long, and even the police started looking for her. News reached the couple, so they took her to Siófok and announced to the police that she was back. After they verified it was, in fact, true, the woman was transferred back to the little hut. At last, in September 2019, based on a report made to the police, they checked the property where they heard the woman’s almost lifeless voice crying for help and, finally, they freed her.

The prosecutor asked for 4 to 6 months of prison time, banning the couple from all public affairs for 5 years, in the case they plead guilty to all charges raised. Furthermore, the prosecutor asked for the implementation of all suspended sentences that were previously not carried out.

  1. The wicked act of these couples is not different from how most elderly people are treated in Hungary. They are left unattended to by their families. It is not a crime to grow old eventhough there is a price for that. It must be the desire of everyone to live a fulfilled life, grow old and still be catered for by the family before joining your ancestors.

  2. The prosecutor requested a 4 – 6 months punishment. It should have been years not months. I will never never never understand how people can be so cruel to other humans and animals.

  3. If I were the prosecutor I would at least double the time this poor elderly person had to endure in
    totally unacceptable conditions as punishment.
Make an example of them and show future offenders what awaits them if they contemplate such behaviour.
I am so sad to see such behaviour actually exists.

  4. A 71 year old woman is held captive, starved and probably physically abused an all the police do is to give the cruel couple 6 months in prison? For shame!

  5. Such a shame that that French woman had no friends what so ever in Hungary or anywhere else who would have had regular even if infrequent visits with her. What was she doing living in a tiny village if she had no reason to do so? Are people not still shopping for things like bread, milk, fresh veg & meat on a daily basis? And no one in those shops thought it was odd that she was never seen & yet the grapevine gossip mill had not let any information about her selling her home etc out into the community? A year & a half for anyone to ask about her? What kind of people live in that village? AND where is her family?
